(Effectiveness of the Integration of
ICT Tools and Activities to Foster
Awareness as the First Stage to
Reach Learning Autonomy)
The revolution of ICT in the learning development.
The reading
for this week was really interesting for me because it encouraged teaching
strategies that aimed to increase the autonomy of learners so that students engaged
in self-direct learning .Also, how ICT tools presents a powerful learning
environment for learners in the classroom, and how ICT is viewed as an
effective tool for renewing educational practice. Moreover, the integration of
information and communications technology in teaching and learning is
considered as a medium in which a variety of approaches and pedagogical
philosophies may be implemental. However, ICT as a teaching aid is more
complicated in that it demands more specific skills from the teachers because
of that, teachers have to acknowledge
that they need to prepare more their lesson plans to be the class more
interactive, dinamic and promote their cognitive developed to their students. Besides,
encouraging learner autonomy, and consequently releasing teacher time to get to
know their learners better and more carefully to adapt their teaching to
learners’ needs.
I will give
four stars to this article because it was useful for me. This article made me
to think these following characteristics the use of ICT to encourage the learning
process effective and autonomy
ICT is a
powerful tool to raise levels of literacy.
- Computers and multimedia software provide attractive ways of learning.
- The web enables access to the best materials and the most exciting learning opportunities.
- Learners who use ICT for basic skills double the value of their study time, acquiring two sets of skills at the same time.
Hello my friend Nicole!
ReplyDeleteI like to emphasize that the role of the teacher in the metacognitive process is to engage with his students to develop autonomy in terms of learning. The big challenge for this is "how to do it". But I also like that you mention that ICT is a powerful tool to raise levels of literacy because in our country there are a lot of people who still cannot read and write. However, it is important to recognize that we as teachers must be the first to be committed to learning through technology and then we can motivate our students to do so. In that sense, do you believe that this generation (2000 to 2030) will reach that goal of being autonomous and committed to learning through Technology?
Hello Gabriela!
DeleteI really appreciate your opinion. I want to answer your question if this generation (2000 to 2030) will reach that goal of being autonomous and committed to learning through Technology? When i was reading this article, and also i discovered that today, the computer and internet technologies have brought into their learning and teaching of English language indisputable transformation/revolution. As you mentioned, it is their appropriate utilizations or manipulation by the teacher that will transform their teaching methods/strategies ,but ICTs are in everywhere and everyone can use and in an enjoyable way ; so that, it has been created a lot of tools to teaching ;for example, Open English , e-language, Open Culture and the famous Duolingo( there are more ) with these tools many people can learn by themselves another language or any other subject in the time that they prefer or in the place that they want. As an effect of this, learners encourage to develop their independence set their own objectives and follow strategies devised by themselves to fulfil them.
Thank you! :D
Hello! Nicole, I really agree with your insight. Students who have an autonomous learning are more capable to develop any skill, and become more proficient in any language. Integrating ICTs to encourage students develop their independence is a great idea. Being responsible, students can make decisions and find new ways to enhance their learning process, and when using technology they can find a wide variety of interactive and challenging resources to improve their language proficient. I also agree with the idea that teachers must know better what their learners need. Before providing the tools and resources they should identify their students’ learning styles, and interest in order to identify the web tools that suit better to their pupils’ preferences and needs. Some activities were considered useful in order to foster linguistic awareness, such as vocabulary games, learning parts of the speech, prefixes, suffixes, and guessing meaning by context. That proves that students learn more when using an inductive method, and that is what technology can offer to them.
ReplyDeleteThank you colleague!
DeleteQuite interesting reflection Nicole! I specially liked your points about the characteristics of ICT tools. Could you tell more about the last one? You said that students double the value of their study time making them acquire two set of skills at the same time, to what skills you're referring to here? Could you give us an example?
ReplyDeleteThank you teacher!
